2nd
$2.50. 16 oz. Sometimes I miss Rochester.
I blame the dearth of recent posts on my exam schedule, which turned me into a recluse for most of the last month. Now that I am on vacation, I was able to get out for some cheap beers.
First stop was Radius pizza in Mt. Pleasant. It was my first time there, and I really liked the feel of the place. They run a $5 pint and slice special from 5-7 on weekdays and during every NFL game. Pretty limited selection with only 3 taps (Peroni, Allagash White, and Grimbergen Dubbel), so there is no reason to go here for beer unless it is during the happy hour. Especially since a beer by itself costs more than the $5 pint/slice special. The guy to our right found this out the hard way when he ordered a second beer. Anyways, I like a bar that is quiet enough to hear the Seinfeld episode on the TV over the bar.
Next we headed downstairs to Tonic. Half price drafts during weeknight happy hour. Had a Magic Hat Lucky Kat for $3. Meh.
Finally, while we were (almost sort of) nearby, we went over to the Red Derby. A fine time as usual. The barkeep was excited to explain and provide “The Combo” to us, which I had always just called the “Shot and a Beer.” Then we took a long, cold walk home.
Anyways, cheapbeerdc will be cheapbeerwesternny for the next two weeks. Maybe I’ll update, maybe I won’t. Time will tell.
Terrific happy hour: $2 Yeungling, $3 Two Hearted. Lasts until 9 PM. Plus the soothing orange/red glow makes it feel like a you’re back in the womb. A womb full of beer.
